Finding your way to the dunes
How to reach Desert Rose Camp in Bidiyah, Wahiba Sands — driving routes, 4x4 pick-up and GPS coordinates.
Last updated: October 2026
Driving from Muscat
The most common route is about 200 km and takes roughly 2.5 to 3 hours. Leave Muscat on Route 23 eastbound through Ibra, then continue to Bidiyah — the gateway to the Wahiba Sands.
The road is paved all the way to Bidiyah. From there, the final stretch enters the soft dunes of the Sands and requires a 4x4. Meet us at the agreed point in Bidiyah and our team will drive you into camp in a 4x4 — just share your arrival time in advance.
Last paved point: Bidiyah town centre.
Do I need a 4x4?
A normal car is fine as far as Bidiyah. The last few kilometres into the dunes need a 4x4, which we provide as part of our pick-up service. There is no need to drive the dunes yourself.
Camp pick-up
We arrange a 4x4 pick-up from the meeting point in Bidiyah to the camp. Let us know your expected arrival time when you book and we'll be there to meet you.
Drive times from other cities
- Sur~1.5 hours (via the coast and Route 23)
- Nizwa~2 hours (east through the interior)
- Ras al Hadd~2.5 hours (via Sur)
Book your stay and we'll coordinate your arrival into the dunes.
